Galvanic Isolator

Galvanic corrosion is caused by galvanic current flow between the vessel and shore side earth. The diode bridge blocks any galvanically generated DC currents (voltages below 1V) but will conduct should a short circuit to earth happen.

The Index Marine Galvanic Isolator (H2160) is made with a suitable capacitor to bridge the diode network to allow small AC currents to bypass the diodes but still blocks the DC current. The capacitor also allows the ECLB's (earth current leakage breakers) to trip safely should any AC current leak to earth - depending on the mA rating of the ECLB - while still providing galvanic isolation.
